| Customer Reviews: Nice system March 20, 2008 John (Columbus Ohio) I purchased the wired and wireless versions of this cam at the same time. They replaced a single dLink DCS1000W. Both failed during set-up and tested out as faulty. Trendnet advised I return them for exchange after a few minutes discussion of the diagnostics I had performed. Amazon made the process painless and the new units set up and worked fine.
I wanted to display the camera output on my web page but Trendnet doesn't provide code support to do that, at least they never responded to my request for it. I viewed the camera output on the web interface and just copied the code I needed and imbedded it in my page. Works great.
great camera for the price August 13, 2008 C. Hamilton I already had 3 other trendnet cameras that were wireless when I bought this one. I didn't need wireless and wanted sound which is why I went with this model. It took me less than 5 minutes to unbox setup and have it working. There is a little static with the audio and the video is lagging at times which is why I only give it 4 stars. If you do not need wireless or night vision and want sound this is a great camera for the price.
Does its job, and works well. February 9, 2009 T. Merchant When searching for a IP enabled camera, I had a hard time finding one that didn't have a reputation for being unstable or unreliable.
This camera has proven to be both stable and reliable, and I am very happy with its performance. It has been online for two months now without a failure or a reboot, and performs exactly as expected.
reliable and works as advertised but with flaws April 12, 2009 Matthew Ptak (Baltimore, MD USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This camera is very easy to use and it does what it claims to do but there are a few flaws with it that you should know before you buy it. 1) the most fatal flaw is that the motion recording of video requires heavy bandwidth on our network and your PC because the camera sends all video data to your PC and your PC needs to process everything. (You basically need to dedicate a PC just for the camera). 2) As mentioned in other reviews, the audio is poor. 3) It seems that there could be better compression of bandwidth in sending and saving video, the saved videos take up about 1MB a second even on the middle settings. 4) The field of view is very restricted, it does not have a wide angle lens, if you mount it in the top corner of a room, it will only see about 25% of the room.
In short, it is simply a webcam that doesn't require a direct PC connection. It is fun to play with as you can see what is happening at your house using any internet connection. However, I would like to find a better alternative than this camera as it is not practical for serious security monitoring. It is more of a play toy.
Do not buy if you need to use audio function over the Internet! November 18, 2008 Snowstorm (CA USA) The major problem of this product is the audio quality. It's simply poor when used within the local network, and totally useless if you try to use it over the Internet (even with high speed cable connection). If I knew that audio quality is that bad, I would buy IP100 and save $50.
