5 out of 5 stars The most reliable and customizable router i have ever used   August 25, 2008

3 out of 3 found this review helpful

I have used Netgear, Belkin and Linksys routers in the past and had no end of issues, the netgear one blew up and during its life required constant reboots, the wireless LAN on the Linksys kept turning itself off, an issue occuring on multiple units, and the Belkin router would not support my work's VPN. I bought a US Robotics router as back when i bought my first 14.4K modem it was reliable. This rounter lasted for about 2 years until i dropped it when moving house. I remember reading somewhere that 3Com had bought US Robotics so decided to go for this one. 2 years with it only requiring rebooting 3 times made me decide to get one once i moved to the US, 4 months and it still has not required a reboot. The firewall rules are easy to setup and use.

if you are looking for a router you can set up and never think about, get this one.

5 out of 5 stars The best piece of electronic i've ever owned   December 25, 2009
Pedro Enrique T. Campos (Rio de Janeiro, Brasil)
Hi there, this is my first review here at Amazon.

I was looking for troubleshoot for my "not near as good as the 3com" DWL g700AP thats being used as a repeater, and, looking for 3com products to substitute it, I've found out that this router is still being sold. So I said to myself, "That router urges for my review, i just LOVE it"

Well, I own it for something like 4 years now, and its absolutely astonishing. Lets start with the resources that you get out of the package:

- ADSL Modem
- Router
- Wireless

As you see, three products in one. I dont know if this is usual nowadays, but back in 2006, that was quite a nice 3 in 1 package. I saw many doubts in the internet if the app would fail or not work properly cause it has so much (3 things) in it, but thats totally incorrect, it rocks.

So, what i would like to share with you:
- Extremely solid. NEVER EVER freezes. 4 years 24/7, most of the time with torrent on & opened ports for faster speeds. No problems at all playing games too, or VoIP or anything. It just works, never stops. No need to reboot to regain wireless signal (like my girldriends D-link 524, and many other value AP and routers).
- Very easy setup. And at the same time lots of configuring options. You can configure anything you want on it.
- Not that great looking, but its relatively small, and has 4 wired ports for Lan. Double antenna is nice too.

The unique con:
- no WPA2 (PSK or not) support. Yes, this sucks a little, 3com should do a firmware upgrade since its still selling it.

I'll not describe the technical details of this router, since, this you can get on the user manual. I just wanted to tell you something that "reputed" reviews most of the time fails to achieve: how the product behaves after months, years of usage. And I must say, this one is a winner.
